Sam & Rob Minervino's Culinary Legacy

For over 30 years, Sam & Rob Minervino's vision has shaped Portland’s food scene and created lasting memories for locals and visitors alike. It all began in 1980 with Sam’s Harbor Lunch, a humble spot on the waterfront known for its delicious comfort food and the welcoming atmosphere that made everyone feel at home. Their commitment to quality and community was clear from the start, as they quickly became known for feeding the hardworking fishermen and fish cutters who made their way down to the docks each day, opening at 4 AM.

Samuel’s Bar & Grill

In 1988, They expanded their reach with Samuel’s Bar & Grill, a beloved establishment on Forest Ave. that became a true Portland institution over the course of nearly 40 years. Known for its hearty meals, friendly service, and inviting atmosphere, Samuel’s was more than just a restaurant; it was a place where families gathered, friends met up, and memories were made. Locals and visitors alike returned time and time again for the comforting, flavorful meals and the sense of belonging that Samuel's always offered.

Tomaso’s Canteen

In 2015, Sam, Rob, Meg and Tommy (the latter two, Sam's kids, sister and brother, owning two locations in Westbrook, "Legends Rest" and "Paper City BBQ") added another gem to their collection with Tomaso’s Canteen on Hampshire street, bringing a new, exciting twist to Portland’s dining scene. With a menu full of bold flavors and an emphasis on fresh, local ingredients, Tomaso’s Canteen quickly became a go-to spot for those looking for something new and different, until 1 AM every night. The success of the restaurants was a testament to the family's dedication and ability to adapt while maintaining their love for community and good food.

Pizza Villa

In 2019, Phil and Tony Regios presented Rob and Sam with the opportunity to take over Pizza Villa, a well-known and successful business established by the Regios boy's father and mother, Mike and Connie, in 1965. Their late brother Andy had also been involved in the business and made it a fixture in the West End neighborhood. Unable to control themselves, they jumped at the opportunity and have been going strong in that location ever since, including through the tumultuous covid years.

Tomaso’s Pizza & Burger Bar

In early 2025, Sam & Robbie opened Tomaso’s Pizza & Burger Bar with business partner Scott Olsen, adding onto the Tomaso's name with a fresh, exciting twist. This new sister restaurant to the original Tomaso's Canteen offers a focus on great pizza, burgers, fresh ingredients, and the same unwavering dedication to the community. It was a change, but one that felt right for the next step in the journey. Sam and Scott's commitment to quality and their deep connection to Portland’s food culture remain as strong as ever, and with Tomaso’s Pizza & Burger Bar, they continue to bring people together through great food in a fresh new way.
